Regarding the book, I can only describe it in one statement…….. “Food for Thought”
This book will definitely have a positive effect on you as a reader instantly. It’s a good read and definitely should be everyone’s household item. If you have kids (obviously old enough to read and understand), then get them to read it as well, as it can be used as an awareness tool. Although I do think that many people will be reluctant to accept the views stated in this book because so many of us already live comfortably.
What kept my attention from turning page to page was that it relates to every individual in some way. We’ve been introduced to so much things, especially in the area of making our lives simpler and better that we’ve forgotten about the finer things in life. This book gives us the chance to increase our carbon footprint which will help us and “Mother Nature” maintain the Earth for just a little bit longer and our existence thereon.
Simon Gear has seperated it into six categories namely; Home & Garden, Family, Work & Community, Travel & Leisure, Food & Drink and most importanly, YOU! So, its not so hard a task to read. We live in an era where technology rule our lives and we cant imagine being without the gadgets (low and behold) as they are part our needs, however, most of us are found in a position of complacency and therefore rule out every bit of intention on going back to the “good old days”.
For instance, many of us wont consider doing the following; instead of using the tumble dryer, why not let our clothing get SUN dried; instead of using the car to go to the shop around the corner, why not use your bicycle (which is probably hanging against the wall in your garage on display); instead of using a sprinkler system in your garden, why not get up a few minutes earlier in the morning and water the garden with a garden sprout.
Going Green 365 Ways to Change Our World is so close to home that when you done reading it even though Simon Gear does mention in his Introduction that “If you can make five changes to your life based on what you read”, I was left with the feeling of practicing all 365 tips. This book relates to all and in some ways can make a difference in your life… for the better!
