Sam Roy was born and raised in Durban. He also attended school there but Cape Town is now the place that he calls home.

Sam’s love for broadcasting was sparked at an early age – when as a seven year old his father gave him his first radio. Inspired by Springbok Radio, Sam became a club DJ at the age of 13, where he also got the name “DJ Huggy Bear”. He pursued his dream of being live on air and eventually he was given his first show on campus radio. To this day he still works as a club DJ and runs his own events company.

In his spare time you'll find him in the gym, reading a book or watching sport. Sam’s a passionate follower of Formula 1, cricket and soccer. He freely admits to being a die-hard Tottenham Hotspurs fan and is also a big supporter of Ajax Cape Town and Bafana Bafana.

If you want to keep Sam happy, make the food hot and spicy and keep the white wine chilled. His taste in cuisine is much like his show, where you can expect a healthy combination of hot music and Sam’s cool personality.
