Diggy Bongz hails from Port Elizabeth, where he grew up with his 4 brothers and his sister. One of his brothers was a professional guitar player who taught him to play bass guitar and fuelled his interest in music.
Diggy started his club DJ career in 1995, but his profile truly began to lift when he moved to Cape Town to study Organisational Psychology at UCT in 1997. Already an established voice artist, his first commercial radio gig began two years later. During this time, he was also a club owner and a founder member of Dantai - the only Cape Town Kwaito group to be nominated for a SAMA award.
As if this didn’t keep him busy enough, Diggy is married and has a 6 month old daughter he describes as “a princess”. He’s fallen in love with Cape Town, especially Long Street and Langa. By contrast, he says that he hates heavy metal music, half-cooked chicken and racists. Since his arrival at Heart 104.9fm in 2008, Diggy has been outspoken in expressing these values on air.
