Cape Town International Kite Festival – 10 & 11 October 2009
Flying scuba divers and dragons are just some of the magnificent kites that will fill the sky on 10 & 11 October at the fifteenth Cape Town International Kite Festival, proudly hosted by Cape Mental Health in association with Heart 104.9 FM.
This is Africa’s biggest kite festival and has professional kiters from Germany, England and around South Africa showing off their magical kiting creations. The 2009 theme is ‘World on a String: Celebrating World Mental Health Day’.

Heart 104.9FM will be broadcasting live from the event. How can you be part of the action?
- Bring along your family and friends for a great day out. Entry is just R10 per adult and R5 per child - all profits go to help children and adults with mental disabilities.
- Make a kite to enter the Creative Kite Competition. The kite can be any shape or size but should cost less than R25 in materials. If you use a People’s Post newspaper to make the kite you can enter the special People’s Post category.
- The sky is the limit for local talent at the Cape Town International Kite Festival. Cape Mental Health is calling on musicians, dancers and others entertainers to perform on the stage at the Festival. It’s an opportunity to be part of one of city’s biggest family events whilst helping support children and adults with mental disabilities. Entertainers interested in volunteering to perform should contact Festival Organiser Shameemah Wallace on (021) 697 3566 or email Shameemah@event-telligent.co.za.
With food stalls, giant inflatables, kiddies’ rides, the Heart 104.9 FM DJs and an eclectic craft market, this is family entertainment at its best.
The Cape Town International Kite Festival will be open from 10:00 to 18:00 each day and takes place on the lawns surrounding Zandvlei, Muizenberg. There is lots of parking and easy access by train (False Bay or Muizenberg stations).
