Good news for all Cape Town’s northern suburbs dog lovers - the SPCA is “wiggle waggling” its way North for their second annual SPCA PURINA Woefie-Wandel, which will take place on Saturday, 26 February at 9am at Hoërskool Tygerberg in De Tijger, Parow.

The easy family fun walk is based on the SPCA’s hugely popular Wiggle Waggle Walkathon, which attracts thousands of walkers and dogs to Tokai each year.

“We know it’s a bit of a drive to Tokai for our Northern suburb friends, so we’re bringing  our much-loved dog walk to them again”, said Cape of Good Hope (CoGH) SPCA Event’s Coordinator, Juan August.

The CoGH SPCA and sponsors PURINA and Pick n Pay hope the second annual SPCA PURINA Woefie-Wandel will attract hundreds of two and four-legged walkers, helping to raise much needed funds for abused and mistreated animals. Last year just over 400 people and 282 dogs of all shapes and sizes took part.

“At PURINA we are passionately committed to making pets’ lives better. We don’t just want to make better products - we also want to help pet owners make the world a better place for their pets and less fortunate ones”, said PURINA’s Audrey Birkenstock.

Pick n Pay has also given their backing and is using their network of stores to help promote the event.  “Enter now and bring your “woefie” for a “wandel” – you’ll be sure to put a wag in their tail and help the SPCA do the same for the many unwanted dogs in their care”, said Pick n Pay Western Cape Marketing Manager, Mark Jennings.

Participants can enter online at www.spca-ct.co.za or by picking up an entry form available at Pick n Pay stores across Cape Town.  Entry forms are also available directly from the SPCA and at the SPCA Vet Shop in Plumstead.

Cost is just R30 per person and R30 per dog and children in prams enter free. Registration opens at 07h00 on the day and the walk starts at 09h00.

The event starts at 9am and will take walkers on a 3,5km circular route around Hoërskool Tygerberg.  There are a couple of short hills along the route but nothing too strenuous, making it manageable for the whole family and easily accessible for children in prams.

Regular water points will be available every half a kilometer and traffic officials, volunteer veterinarians and a human first aid vehicle will be on hand to attend to any human or canine injuries along the route.

Festivities on the day will include a dog agility display and a jumping castle for children.  Radio Tygerberg’s Lorrein Katzke will broadcast from the event and help give away the many fabulous prizes from sponsors PURINA and Pick ‘n Pay.  There’ll also be a great selection of food, beverage and pet product stalls available.

Issued by the Cape of Good Hope SPCA. For more information please contact Lamees Martin on 021 700 4141 or email comms@spca-ct.co.za
