What do Cape Town’s “big, bad bikers” do as the holiday season approaches? They tune up their bikes, tune into Heart 104.9FM, and collect toys for kids!
This year is the 27th Annual Toy Run® and we look forward to building on the foundation of support and goodwill that makes this event so special. Once again the organisers invite all motorcyclists from the Cape Peninsula and surrounding towns to join their fellow riders on Sunday 29th November 2009. And we invite EVERYBODY to be part of the fun at Maynardville finish point.

Heart 104.9FM will be there, with a special Toy Run® LIVE broadcast hosted by Alistair Izobell. He’ll be joined by all your favourite Heart 104.9FM personalities between 10h00 – 14h00 as Cape Town shows its heart.
Launched in 1982 simultaneously in Cape Town and Johannesburg by the Italian Motorcycle Owners Club, the Toy Run® is now the largest motorcycling-related charity event in Southern Africa and arguably the world. The Cape Town Toy Run® attracts upwards of 15 000 motorcycle enthusiasts and more than 5 000 other caring Capetonians over the duration of the 6-hour event.
The aims of the Toy Run are to improve and enhance the image of motorcyclists and to collect and distribute toys and gifts to less privileged children up to 18 years. 2008 saw the Cape Town event grow yet again with more than 27 000 toys being collected by Cape Town alone, and distributed to children via more than 230 organisations throughout the Cape and South Africa.
The Toy Run™ is open to any licensed motorcyclist on any roadworthy, licensed motorcycle providing that he or she donates at least ONE TOY each, collected at the Maynardville site at the conclusion of the ride. Access will not be granted to anybody at Maynardville without a toy. All normal road rules apply. NO unlicensed riders or vehicles are permitted. (NO children under 16). Riding motorcycles inside the Maynardville venue is NOT permitted.

TOYS
As the teddy bear insignia is so closely identified with the Toy Run® , every year we receive a vast majority of soft toys suitable for very young children but there is a desperate need for older children’s toys (for teenage boys and girls), please help us by focussing on:
• Any sports equipment ~ cricket sets, basketball hoops, balls of any type ~ soccer, tennis, rugby etc
• Costume jewellery & craft kits, toiletries & make-up for older girls
• Puzzles & board games
• Fun stationery, drawing & art equipment
• (Please no toy guns of any sort – these will not be distributed)

The Toy Run® will end at Maynardville, where there will be facilities such as a beer garden, food stalls, motorcycle displays, accessories, bike-related jewellery and memorabilia, entertainment, comedians, live music, a Heart 104.9FM Outside Broadcast and space to just relax. Kurt Schoonraad will host an activity stage to keep you entertained. The event ends at 16h00.
